Watkins Motorsports Group and Avery Huffman Defeat DIPG Foundation team up once again in 2018
After a successful 2017 raising awareness in the fight against DIPG, the Watkins Motorsports Group is happy to announce that the team and the Avery Huffman Defeat DIPG Foundation are back for more in 2018.
The month of May marks "Brain Tumor Awareness Month," and is buoyed by National DIPG Awareness Day held on May 17.
Last year, WMG partnered with the Avery Huffman Defeat DIPG Foundation by putting the Foundation’s logos on the team’s Dallara DW-12 Indy car entries in the iRacing Indianapolis 500, the ISDC Indianapolis 500 and all events the team participated in from April through the end of the year.
In 2018, the team will run the Foundation’s logos on the brand new Dallara IR-18 Indy car to bring awareness to the disease known as DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma) and what the Avery Huffman Defeat DIPG Foundation does to raise awareness and funding.
Avery Huffman, the daughter of Brandon and Amanda Huffman, was diagnosed June 30, 2015 with an inoperable, cancerous brain tumor known as DIPG.
Avery fought a brave and courageous fight, inspiring thousands across the nation to become #AveryStrong through the fall and winter of 2015. Her battle garnered attention from numberous media outlets including the USA Today, Washington Post, Seattle Times, Ventura County Star, Huffington Post, Entertainment Weekly, FOX, NBC, CBS, Sports Illustrated and Scout.
On February 16, 2016, with her mother Amanda, father Brandon, sisters Alexandra and Addison, and brother Cade close by her side, Avery took her final breath on earth before she went to heaven to be with the Lord.
Avery’s tumor and brain were donated to medical research, with the hopes of research allowing for further progress in the search for a cure. You can learn more about Avery by visiting the Avery Huffman Defeat DIPG Foundation website at www.averystrongdipg.org.
Following Avery’s passing, a foundation was created under her name. The Avery Huffman Defeat DIPG Foundation is committed to finding a cure for brainstem tumors known as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). Nearly every day, one child in the United States is diagnosed with DIPG and another dies from it.
The Foundation seeks to make a difference and defeat DIPG both by raising awareness and by providing funding for research into effective treatments for DIPG.
The Avery Huffman Defeat DIPG Foundation is a chapter of the Michael Mosier Defeat DIPG Foundation, the parent foundation based in Maryland that honors the legacy of 6-year-old Michael Mosier, who also courageously fought DIPG, and is committed to the fight against DIPG.
Donations to the Foundation can be made at www.averystrongdipg.org/donation/. Buy a shirt, or make a donation, because every cent makes a difference in the fight to find a cure.
The Watkins Motorsports Group is excited to work with Brandon and Amanda in trying to spread awareness through unique channels, like iRacing.
Both WMG cars, driven by John and Tanner Watkins, will carry Avery’s Foundation as the primary sponsor throughout the 2018 Month of May at Indianapolis as well as the rest of the 2018 Indy Elite Series season, the 2018 ISDC Rigshare World Series summer championship and the iRacing Verizon IndyCar Series.
